Germany vs. Australia – World Cup 2010

Posted by Kristina

After the painfully long evening and the painfully long drive, we went straight to see the painfully wonderful beating Germany would give Australia.

The drive from Pretoria to Durban was about 7 hours. We stopped at one of the most fun rest stops I’ve ever been to. Check out the picture below to see why!

Trampoline at Rest Stop

After the trampoline break, we went straight to Durban stadium, Moses Mabhida Stadium. One of the most beautiful stadiums Patrick and I have ever seen. About 500 meters from the ocean, with a sky-tram on top (currently not running for security reasons).

Of course I’m routing for Germany, its the homeland, Patrick routed for Australia for whatever reason. I painted my face, put on my flag and Germany shirt…now I’m ready!

I'm ready! Go Germany!

Before the game all the fans are drinking and mingling. There are people in jerseys, dressed as soccer balls, painted, in leotards, wearing huge hats and painted naked bodies. Anything seems to go and it IS AWESOME!!!!! When walking around, people will run up to you and ask for your picture, and vice versa! I’ve never seen anything like it!

Group of Aussie fans and two German fans we met.

Aussies in leotards. I was laughing so hard, not ready for them to pick me up!

Patrick and I made it to the game, only to watch Germany give the Aussies a spanking! We ended up sitting in the middle of the Australia section, so I was the only Germany fan…didn’t let this damper my spirit! Super exciting to watch all 4 goals by Germany!
